About Elsie Yanik Catholic School

Elsie Yanik was a distinguished Metis Elder in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. She lived in Fort McMurray for many years, and previously lived in Fort Chipewyan. Yanik was the embodiment of kindness, gratitude, compassion, justice, and wisdom. Her Catholic faith and dedication to children and education is an inspiration to all. Elsie Yanik Catholic School opened in September 2018 in Parsons Creek. Enrolment is approximately 425 students from Early Entry to Grade 6. Elsie Yanik Catholic School offers a faith-based learning environment to students of any background and a level of instruction geared toward the highest academic standards. Instruction is primarily in English.
